La Olmeda, la Cueva de los Franceses and the ships of the Canal de Castilla offer the public their charm with all the security that is required at this stage.

The Palencia Provincial Council has kept the doors of its tourist resources open since March 5, as a result of the improvement in sanitary conditions that forced closure in mid-January. Adapting at all times to the measures and restrictions indicated by the Junta de Castilla y León as a health authority and safeguarding the safety of all citizens, the provincial administration offers its tourist resources as a claim for the traveler during the next Holy Week, an ideal period for the journey even when the undoubted appeal of processional parades and other liturgical acts at this time of year has been suppressed.

To these resources — Roman villains La Olmeda, with its museum, and La Tejada; ships from the Canal de Castilla and Cueva de los Franceses— from Maundy Thursday to Resurrection Sunday, guided tours of the Provincial Palace programmed by the Palencia Provincial Council will join. From Holy Thursday (April 1) to Easter Sunday (April 4), the main rooms of the Provincial Palace and the works of art housed in this beautiful building designed by the architect Jerónimo Arroyo will be displayed. In this way, residents of Palencia and visitors will be able to enjoy the interior of this magnificent property, the main headquarters of the institution, in complete safety, since a strict protocol will be followed in visits, which are established in four hourly shifts: 11:00, 12 : 15, 17:00 and 18:15. Visitors are asked to be at the starting point of the visit (the Provincial Palace lobby) fifteen minutes before. Those interested should sign up at the Tourist Office (Mayor, 31) from Friday, March 26, or through from the telephone number 979 70 65 23; by filling in the registration that will be provided with some basic information (ID, name and surname and origin), identification that will be verified at the beginning of the visit. With an approximate duration of one hour, it will be carried out in groups of five people plus the person who guides, and the most significant places in the building will be visited: in addition to the main lobby, the auditorium, the committee room and the visiting room ; with explanations on some of the works of art exhibited, the history of the institution and its powers as an administration.

With advanced reservation and the relevant security protocols in terms of distances and gauges, the Palencia Provincial Council decided three weeks ago to reopen its resources, which are framed within the diversity and provincial wealth in terms of natural, geological, archaeological and artistic events that this province brings together for travelers to inland tourist destinations

The complex that forms the Villa Romana La Olmeda, in PEDROSA DE LA VEGA, and its museum in SALDAÑA, are the flagship of the institution's tourist offer, not only for the majesty of the modern building that protects the archaeological magnificent collection of mosaics, but because it allows, even in the current pandemic situation, to easily meet all security requirements. The town hours for all days of the week —except for Mondays, which are closed—) is from 10:30 to 18:30 uninterruptedly, while the museum opens —also from Tuesday to Sunday— in the morning (10:30 a.m. -13: 30) and afternoon (16: 30-19: 00). The access ticket can be obtained by telephone reservation (979 119 997 and 670 450 143), requesting it by email on the website (www.villaromanalaolmeda.com), or by online purchase on the same website.

On the other hand, Roman Villa La Tejada, in QUINTANILLA DE LA CUEZA, opens during the month of March on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays in the morning (10: 30-14: 30) and afternoon (16: 00-18: 00 ), which will be extended at Easter as of April, with opening from Thursday to Sunday and somewhat longer hours (10:30 am to 2:30 pm and 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm). To visit this villa it is also required to make a telephone appointment, or send an email through the La Olmeda website.

The Palencia Provincial Council also maintains the two tourist boats of the Canal de Castilla in operation. The ship ‘Juan de Homar’, located in the FRÓMISTA lock, sails every day of the week, except Tuesdays due to staff rest; with this schedule in March: in the mornings, from 10:30 to 14:00; and in the afternoons, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The morning schedule does not change in April, but it is extended in the afternoon and afternoon from 4:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. This vessel only allows ten travelers per trip to comply with safety protocols. To enjoy it, you must book at the email address barcojuandehomar@diputaciondepalencia.es or by phone 673 36 84 86. The Cueva de los Franceses, in REVILLA DE POMAR, remains open to the public in March from Thursday to Sunday in the morning (10: 30-14: 00) and afternoon (16: 00-18: 00), which is extended from April 1 to 5 in the afternoon time slot (16: 00-20: 00), without altering the morning opening regime. At this time, the groups are reduced to five people plus the guide and it is also necessary to book the visit by phone at number 659 94 99 98.

Immersed at the heart of the Unesco Las Loras Geopark, the Cueva de los Franceses is an ideal place for children to delve into the fantastic world of geology, inside the earth and discover all that it hides. The monitors who guide the visit to the cave invite you to interpret the karst formations so that you can imagine figures, animals and even immersed in the Unesco Geopark Las Loras, the Cueva de los Franceses is an ideal place for children to enter the fantastic world of geology, inside the earth and discover all that it hides. FAMILY WORKSHOPS. For this reason, the Provincial Council of Palencia has organized a program of workshops every Sunday in March under the name The mailbox of the cave, with limited capacity and with all the security measures, in order to bring the Cueva de los Franceses closer to the creative and educational to the many families who visit it. The main objective of this educational proposal is that children and adults participate together in the development of different dynamics to approach in a playful way the theme and characteristics of the Cave of the French, its geological characteristics, the formation of these karst treasures, offering a relaxed and stimulating environment where a learning experience based on observation, interaction and experimentation will be provided.

The workshops are free, aimed at families, and are offered on Sunday, March 28, and April 1 and 5, in the morning and afternoon, after each visit to the cave. The prices for visits are the usual (general: three euros; reduced for schoolchildren, pensioners and youth card, two euros; and free for children under seven). To participate in them, it is necessary to book in advance together with the visit by calling the telephone number 659 94 99 98 or by email at the address cuevadelosfranceses@diputaciondepalencia.es

Another tourist resource of the Palencia Provincial Council, the Castillo de los Sarmiento, in Fuentes de Valdepero, remains closed, as the building does not meet the necessary conditions to establish a security protocol. When the normal health situation is restored, this important legacy of defensive architecture, of notable interest in the history of Castile, will return to the catalog of Palencia destinations of singular attraction for people interested in cultural tourism.
