The installation has been possible thanks to a subsidy of 130,000 euros from the DUS 5000 program for unique clean energy projects.

The Roman villa of La Olmeda, in Pedrosa de la Vega and owned by the Provincial Council of Palencia, is already equipped with a photovoltaic solar installation for self-consumption that will allow it to supply electrical energy in a completely sustainable and efficient manner. This action has been possible thanks to a subsidy of 130,000 euros obtained by the Institution within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan financed by the European Union - of the European Union Next Generation, within the framework of the "DUS5000" program 'Singular projects of clean energy in municipalities with a demographic challenge'.

The work has been carried out by the company Electricidad Vicente, SLU, with an award budget of just over 129,400 euros and has consisted of the installation at the back of the building that houses the site of a park with 156 monocrystalline photovoltaic panels.

The objective of this work is framed within the measure of the DUS 5000 program relating to renewable electricity generation facilities for self-consumption with storage.

With the installation of this photovoltaic park, the objective of using energy from renewable sources is therefore achieved to promote the change from a centralized electricity generation system to a distributed or continuous generation system, where generation is integrated in the network as an element of efficiency, self-management and production associated with the consumption center in which it is possible to act on demand actively through appropriate communication and control systems.

This action is also included in the development of strategic measure 9 called 'Energy efficiency strategy and promotion of renewable energy in public buildings' of the Action Plan of the Rural Agenda of Palencia (ARP) against the Demographic Challenge of the Provincial Council from Palencia.

Given the special protective characteristics of the building in terms of archaeological protection, the work was submitted for authorization by the Heritage Commission of the Junta de Castilla y León.

It is worth remembering that the Palencia Provincial Council has been the beneficiary of two other subsidies from the DUS 5000 program.

This is the heating renovation project and improvement of the thermal envelope of the La Casona building, in Cervera de Pisuerga, which receives aid of almost 211,000 euros, and the pilot program for the implementation of a sustainable public transport system in the demand in the area of influence of Saldaña, Baltanás and Cervera de Pisuerga with an amount of just over 210,000 euros.
