La Olmeda joins the celebration of the International Museum Day 2021. This year the photographic mosaic "E plvribvs vnvm" will be presented on social networks and on the website, thus commemorating the 25th anniversary of the declaration of the Olmeda as an Asset of Cultural Interest.
The International Council of Museums (ICOM) created International Museum Day in 1977, which is celebrated on May 18 globally, to sensitize the public about the role of museums in the development of society. Since then, the popularity of the event has continued to grow, each year under a common theme, which this time is entitled "The future of museums: recover and reimagine". Rethinking the museum of the future to face the challenges of the present.
In these difficult times that we now live, this initiative of the International Museum Day 2021 invites us museums, their professionals and communities to create, imagine and share new practices of (co) creation of value, new business models for cultural institutions and innovative solutions for today's social, economic and environmental challenges.
As every year, the Diputación de Palencia joins this international celebration, promoting the public's approach to La Olmeda. Free access is offered on May 18. On the other hand, the central activity of the commemoration will be the presentation on the web and social networks of the result of the activity "E plvribvs vnvm", which was launched on April 3 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the declaration of the Villa Romana La Olmeda as Asset of Cultural Interest in 1996. This initiative has sought to involve the public that has visited La Olmeda at this time, through the creation of a collective mosaic configured with the photographs sent by the participants, around the general theme of Spanish heritage.
This year is special for the Villa Romana La Olmeda, having commemorated on April 3 the XXV Anniversary of its Declaration as an Asset of Cultural Interest (BIC). To celebrate this special date, the Diputación de Palencia presented the activity "E Plvribvs Vnvm, another mosaic in the Olmeda" in which visitors and friends of La Olmeda could send their photographs related to Spanish cultural heritage from April 3 to 9 May to make up this photomosaic. The mosaic chosen is the Oecus, which is considered to be the most representative of the site and one of the most spectacular from the late Roman period.
